IPA was honoured to invite Mr. Hermawan Kartajaya to our gathering to give us a talk on his latest book "Marketing in Venus". It has already sold about 28,000 copies in Indonesia alone within months, which is the national best seller. This topic is also currently very hot in Indonesia!

The talk focused on EARTH becoming VENUS. This was explained through the rapid use of Multi Intelligent Devices (like handphones) increasing people's communication & making people more emotional, rather than rational.

The talk attracted more than 50 people; it was very lively and elicited lots of laughter. Mr. Hermawan used a lot of real-life examples to make his points. This made the talk really interesting and yet left a great impression in our minds.

About the Speaker:

The Indonesian-born Hermawan Kartajaya has studied at the Universities of Glasgow and Surabaya, and attended many Executive programmes at Wharton, Harvard and Insead amongst others. He has also lectured widely, from Switzerland to Singapore. A Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), he was President of the Asia-Pacific Marketing Federation between 1998 and 2000.

In 2000, Kartajaya co-authored Repositioning Asia: From Bubble to Sustainable Economy with Philip Kotler (Widely known Marketing Guru), and produced a marketing bestseller. In it, they analysed why the Asian crisis of 1997 occurred, and outlined what the governments and companies of the region could do to develop more sustainably in the future.

Kartajaya's expert analysis, in-depth knowledge, and strategic thinking, won him acclaims from many of his peers. He is a combined "product" of Western mind, Asian heart and Indonesian soul. 2002 saw him team up with Kotler again in their book Rethinking Marketing: Sustainable Market-ing Enterprise.

Mr. Kartajaya has been President of the World Marketing Association since 2002. He is also President of MarkPlus&Co, the Indonesian-based management consultancy firm that he founded in 1989.
