Paving your way into Forex trading
To the uninitiated, online trading may seem like the easy way out to earn big bucks. Buy low, sell high; it shouldn’t be that hard, right?
However, experienced professional trader and money manager, Ed Ponsi, ironed out this main misconception in his introductory course on the basics of forex trading to 26 IPA members and friends that gathered in the Online Trading Academy, Singapore, and there to learn the ropes from the master himself.
Ponsi is a globally recognised name in the forex world. He is the former Chief Trading Instructor for Forex Capital Markets, and has advised hedge funds to institutional traders and individuals of all levels of skill and experience. He has also appeared on CNBC, CNN International and TheStreet.com, and has recently written his first book for Wiley Finance entitled Forex Patterns & Probabilities.
His three-hour session was divided into two parts.
In the first part, Ponti went through the basic terminology found in trading as well as general psychology of trading. Illustrating his points with interesting anecdotes, he helped bridge inexperienced participants to the world of forex trading.
In the second part, Ponti created a simulation of real-life trading, using charts and live data feeds. Ponti also prepared his students with topics such as risk management and an effective trading plan.
Participant Fernando Tjia was impressed.
“The talk was very educational, fun, and realistic,” he said.
Finally, Ponsi emphasised that forex trading is not a quick money scheme.
“Trading requires real dedication, correct aptitude and a lot of hard work,” he concluded.
