Real life encounter with counter strike By RISYAD AZHAR

Do you know counter strike? Have you played it? Fun, isn't it? I am a huge fan of counter strike. To me, it's the coolest computer game ever created! To the uninitiated, counter strike is a tactical first person shooter video game which originated from Half Life, another video game, modification. The game is almost entirely base on the dynamically streamlined multiplayer experience. There goes the Wikipedia explanation. In simple terms, counter strike allows you to be the shooting-happy sniper, while also maximises the experience as if you are in the battlefield yourself.

As a self-proclaimed counter strike fan, I wasted no time in grabbing a pen to mark my calendar when I heard about  IPA's Paintball Battle Adventure event. Maximum adrenaline rush, the excitement of aiming and shooting; I can derive the same joy from playing counter strike in real life. Well, perhaps, just better! On 6 December 2008, my fantasy materialised. Thirty seven IPA friends gathered, completely excited with anticipation of what they were going to experience.

When we were there, we were immediately divided into eight groups to face each other. The session started with an introduction and tutorial briefing by the staff from Red Dynasty Paintball. Safety measures such as the use of helmets and the gun's safety locks were also in the list.

The rules of the game are simple - we just have to go out to the field, shoot all our opponents and remain un-hit. Okay, actually, they are not that simple. To make the game more enjoyable, the staff have prepared three types of paintball games. Yes, this means each teams would play three games and each game would have its own objective to accomplish. Each player had 100 bullets per game and unlimited life,. In other words, if we get hit, we just have to run to our 'base' to be 'resurrected'. That way, we could get the upmost value for our time there.

In the first round of the games, the rule was to take your opponent's flags or bricks and bring them to the base. The items are strategically placed in a certain way, that to take them, you have to let yourself uncovered and versatile to flying bullets. Hence, teamwork is definitely a must have to be able to take the flags or bricks un-shot and win this first game.

In the second round, the level of difficulty became more challenging. We had to shoot a cone in opponent's area first before we could proceed to take the flags and bricks. Automatically, the 8 teams rearranged their strategy in order to win the games.  It was a very great sight to see the teams which were initially a group of strangers, became bonded together to discuss the strategy to win. After some discussion, the second round battle commence.

Oh I think I forgot to mention, the bullets were of a ball shape, and when the trigger of the gun was pressed, it could fly so fast that when it hit an object, it would break and spill the paint content. Fortunately, it is a very-easy-to-remove paint, so no worries in spoiling your clothes.

In the last round, the objective became even more difficult. We had to shoot the enemy's cone, take the flags and the bricks back to our base and finally plant a flag in a cone which is located in the middle area between two teams. This, again, would leave you very exposed and vurnerable to flying bullets when planting the flag. Again, the team members of strangers-turned-comrades were seen discussing the strategy and having fun.

After the final round finished, the teams were brought to a free shooting area where they could use the remaining bullets to practice shooting targets.

The staff then provided the highlight of the event, that was announcing the results of the game, including which teams won the most targets, which teams had the best teamwork, etc.

The IPA Paintball Battle Adventure has been truly a great game, and a very effective one to create a bonding between people. Special thanks to Mr. Karel and teams who has brought this very exciting event.  I will be ever ready to mark my calendar for future paintball events.
